A man admitted raping a teenager as she slept. He told him: "She was asleep." "She was intoxicated from drink." "She was in an unlocked bedroom in someone else's home." "You knew all of those things and you specifically targeted her when she was particularly vulnerable." Sow, 46, who lives in Milan, Italy, pleaded guilty to rape.
The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC jailed him for six years and four months.
He returned to Italy, where he has an expectant wife and young child, but was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant and returned to the UK.
She gave an impact statement saying her life was "turned upside down" after the rape and as a result she lost self-confidence and self-esteem.
Prosecutor John Stokes said: "He raped her whilst she was sleeping." He also demonstrated insight and empathy as far as his actions are concerned.
As Sow was led from the dock he placed his hand on his chest and made an apologetic bow to the victim and her supporters in the public gallery.
One woman told him: "We will never forgive you, ever." A man added: "I hope you rot." The judge told Sow to notify to police his name and address, indefinitely, and barred him from working with children and vulnerable people.
