BRISTOL MAN JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE AND DRUG OFFENCES
A 46-year-old man from Bristol, Barry White of Coombe Dale, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being convicted of several charges related to child sexual abuse and drug possession. The charges included attempted sexual communication with a minor, trying to coax a child aged between 13 and 15 into sexual acts, and possessing indecent images of children across all levels of seriousness.
White also admitted to possessing cocaine and allowing his property to be used for drug-related activities.
The court was informed that White engaged in conversations with an undercover police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl, during which he requested her to be his girlfriend, shared explicit photos of himself, and attempted to persuade her to perform an intimate act online.
Police discovered that his residence contained child abuse images and drugs, including ten ounces of cocaine, along with scales, cutting agents, and £1,000 cash.
Judge James Patrick remarked that White was socially, sexually, and socially isolated and that he was not known for good conduct in the past.
Additionally, White was ordered to register his whereabouts with law enforcement indefinitely, and he is likely to be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.
The investigation was sparked by internet searches related to drugs and youth websites, which attracted police attention.
Examination of his electronic devices confirmed that all found indecent images were among the most serious types of child abuse material.
In his defense, lawyer David Maunder cited White’s mental health issues, which he claimed contributed to his social and sexual withdrawal, as well as his drug use that impaired his judgment.
Maunder argued that White’s role was primarily as a buyer rather than a dealer, and raised the possibility that he was a victim of cuckooing, a process where drug traffickers take over vulnerable individuals’ homes for their illegal activities.
