BARRY RAYNER OF TIMPERLEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN MANCHESTER

In a case that has shocked the community of Timperley and the wider Manchester area, Barry Rayner, a 45-year-old resident of Houldsworth Avenue, was convicted of multiple serious charges related to the sexual abuse of young girls. The court found Rayner guilty of eight counts of indecent assault involving girls under the age of 16, four counts of engaging in indecency with children under 14, and three counts of sexual assault. These convictions stem from a lengthy investigation and trial that revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse spanning several years.

Rayner's criminal activities reportedly began in 1994 when he started abusing a girl who was only seven years old at the time. This abuse continued for a period of six years, during which the victim endured ongoing harm at the hands of Rayner. Two years later, in 1996, Rayner began abusing a second girl, also aged seven, and continued to assault her until she reached the age of 16. The victims, who endured unimaginable trauma, finally reported the abuse to the police in 2008, bringing the case to light after years of silence and suffering.

Following the conviction, the court sentenced Rayner to a prison term of nine years. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life, a measure intended to monitor and restrict his activities post-release. Furthermore, Rayner was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which imposes strict conditions to prevent any further harm and protect the community from potential reoffending.

Detective Constable Nicola Graham, of the Trafford public protection unit, expressed her commendation for the victims’ bravery, stating, “These women, who were merely girls at the time of the abuse, have shown immense bravery in reporting the abuse to the police.
