VIOLENT ABUSER JAILED FOR 13 YEARS FOR SOUTH AYRSHIRE ATTACKS
A VIOLENT abuser with a 30-year criminal record has been jailed for 13 years for raping two women in South Ayrshire.Barry Fraser subjected his victims to physical and sexual violence and verbally abused them during their ordeals.
A judge told the 46-year-old at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday: "You subjected the first woman to brutal and traumatising abuse." Lady Ross said she had read a victim impact statement from the second woman and added: "It is plain you are responsible for causing serious psychological harm." The judge said Fraser's history involved 81 offences and jail terms being imposed on more than 20 occasions.
She noted drugs and violence have been routine in Fraser's life, although he has no previous record of sex crimes.
Lady Ross told him he has shown no remorse and accepted no responsibility for his sexual offending.
The court ordered Fraser to be monitored and supervised in the community for a further four years when he will be under licence and can be returned to jail if he breaches conditions.
Fraser earlier stood trial at the High Court in Paisley, denying allegations but convicted of two charges of assault and rape and two of abusive behaviour.
The offences occurred between August 2020 and February 2022 in Ayr and Maybole.
One woman, who was considerably younger, was repeatedly raped and physically assaulted, being hit with screwdrivers, punched, pulled by hair, and having her head struck against a wall.
Fraser also squeezed her throat, threw a knife, held a knife to her throat, shook her, and threw her on a bed.
The second victim was shouted at, called derogatory names, pinned against a wall, and threatened with a knife.
Fraser also injected cocaine into her.
The advocate highlighted Fraser's lengthy criminal record, and Fraser acknowledged some non-sexual offending, showing no remorse for his actions.
The court made non-harassment orders prohibiting Fraser from contacting the victims and placed him on the sex offenders register.
