NAIRN MAN SPARED JAIL AFTER VIOLENT ASSAULT ON PARTNER AT TRAIN STATION
A man named Barrie McDonald, aged 42, has been involved in a violent assault on his former partner at Elgin train station.The incident occurred after McDonald learned that she was planning a night out with colleagues, which involved both male and female coworkers.
Witnesses described how McDonald called her derogatory names such as “f***ing s***” and a “f***ing liar,” and after leaving the venue, he turned aggressive again at the train station.
He grabbed her by the neck, causing her to fall to the ground and strike her face.
Witnesses saw him with his arm around her neck while pulling her back, and she pleaded with him to stop as members of the public watched.
During the assault, he punched her multiple times while she was on the ground.
An emergency call led police to arrest McDonald, where he became aggressive again and attempted to kick an officer.
The victim suffered injuries including cuts and bruises, with some wounds needing stitches and scars expected to remain.
Previously, McDonald had targeted his ex-partner in July 2019, pushing her and making threats such as intending to “ruin her” and “put her head through a window.” He also physically assaulted her later that day and continued to check her phone and location without permission, driven by jealousy and insecurity.
During sentencing, Sheriff MacDonald described the assault as “nasty,” highlighting the injuries and Scarring caused.
McDonald was given a community payback order with two years’ supervision, 135 hours of unpaid work, and required to attend a domestic abuse program.
The judge emphasized that his behavior was violent and unacceptable, dismissing attempts to blame the victim and condemning his attitude.
