AVIA JONES AND TREVOR CARR FROM BOOTLE INVOLVED IN SHOCKING ABDUCTION NEAR WIGAN AND NORTH WALES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities, a vulnerable 12-year-old girl was abducted outside a train station in Greater Manchester and taken on a harrowing journey spanning over 120 miles to a remote campsite in North Wales. The incident, which unfolded in May 2022, involved two individuals from Bootle, Ava Jones, aged 28, and Trevor Carr, aged 40, whose actions have led to their conviction and subsequent imprisonment.

According to court reports, the young girl, who was dressed in her school uniform at the time, was forcibly taken from outside Wigan North Western railway station. The perpetrators, Jones and Carr, covered her head with a blanket and instructed her to turn off her phone, effectively preventing her from being tracked or calling for help. During the journey, which was marked by arguments and tension, the girl was driven to a campsite located in North Wales, specifically at Fferm Cedris Farm Campsite in Abergynolwyn.

At the campsite, Jones had set up a tent where she and the girl were staying in separate sleeping bags. The situation was further complicated by police attempts to intervene. During the drive, authorities attempted to contact the abducted girl, and she was heard screaming on the phone. Jones, attempting to conceal her identity, falsely claimed to officers that her name was David Jones and that she was camping in Ireland. Despite her deception, detectives managed to track her phone to the campsite in North Wales.

The court heard that the girl’s grandmother had discovered her conversations with Jones in September of the previous year. These conversations, which initially centered around Japanese anime and gender identity issues, raised alarm bells. The grandmother warned Jones to cease contact, labeling her actions as grooming and threatening legal action. The girl’s mother also became involved after the girl failed to return home on October 4. A note was found in her bedroom mentioning a grey Ford Focus Estate and Wigan North Western station, along with references to suicidal thoughts and bullying at school.

During police investigations, Jones claimed that there was another man involved in the incident. Authorities found Carr sleeping in his car near Minffordd, and he admitted to knowing the girl’s whereabouts. Carr stated that he had advised Jones to return the girl, and he was unaware of any prior plans to abduct her. He also claimed that he had not had any contact with the girl until they met in his car, and that Jones had asked him to drive from Wales to Wigan to pick her up. Their journey included a stop in Liverpool, where they purchased new tyres and blankets for the tent.

When questioned about permission from the girl’s parents, Carr questioned why he would need such approval if the girl had already decided to run away. Both Jones, of no fixed address, and Carr, of Burns Street, Bootle, pleaded guilty to charges of child abduction. Judge Tom Gilbart sentenced Jones to two years and two months in prison, while Carr received a two-year sentence. The judge described the case as deeply troubling, emphasizing the unsettling and bizarre behavior of both individuals. He highlighted that Jones, in particular, had preyed upon the insecurities of the young victim, engaging in grooming behavior, and was fully aware of the wrongfulness of her actions. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
