AURIMAS TURCINAVICIUS JAILEN IN HULL FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRL
A man has been sentenced to prison after he kissed a teenage girl who unexpectedly appeared at his home in the early hours of the night.Aurimas Turcinavicius, 36, from Milldane on the Orchard Park estate in Hull, took advantage of the 14-year-old girl and engaged in inappropriate behavior with her after she sought refuge following a fiery argument at her own home.
Despite police warnings to refrain from contact and stay away from her, Turcinavicius continued his actions.
Police later discovered pictures on her phone showing the girl and him, including one where they were in bed together, Hull Crown Court was told.
Turcinavicius pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child, covering incidents between August 17 and 27 and again between October 26 and 29.
His case was initially scheduled for trial, but he changed his pleas two weeks before the proceedings began.
Prosecutor David Godfrey stated that Turcinavicius groomed the girl by buying her gifts and, on two occasions, kissed her in a sexualized manner.
He was interviewed by Humberside Police in August due to concerns about their relationship and had been warned about his behavior, but he nonetheless committed a second offence when she visited him.
The girl had taken photos of their interactions, some appearing sexual, including images of them kissing in various locations, with one showings them in bed together.
The girl’s sister reported that she had become much more introverted since these events.
However, the girl herself chose not to cooperate with police or assist in their investigation.
Defense attorney Nick Worsley explained that Turcinavicius, who is Latvian, claimed the most that occurred was that he and the girl kissed a few times, asserting there was no sexual touching beyond the kisses.
Worsley added, “I kissed her once on her birthday,” and expressed that Turcinavicius regretted his actions.
Turcinavicius, who had a long-term girlfriend and a four-year-old daughter, had recently been unable to see his family as he had been remanded in custody since late October.
Worsley remarked, “He understands that it has come about through his own actions.
This was some ill-advised kissing on a couple of occasions.
It went no further than that.” The police involvement stemmed from the girl leaving her home after a heated argument and seeking refuge at Turcinavicius’s house overnight.
The police found her there after she was reported missing; she was not obsessively pursuing him but had come to him during a time of family trouble.
The girl had taken selfies with Turcinavicius, including one jumping onto his bed; Worsley clarified that the photographs were taken by her and that their contact did not extend beyond messing around.
The court was told that Turcinavicius was generally a hardworking man who had only been unemployed for a few weeks and had been a “model prisoner.” He had a previous conviction for criminal damage.
Judge John Thackray QC addressed the court, stating that Turcinavicius had kissed the girl in a sexual way using their tongues, traditionally called French kissing.
“You became very close to your 14-year-old victim and kissed her in a sexual way on two occasions.
There was a very significant disparity in age of over 20 years.
You continued to have contact with your victim despite a previous warning,” the judge said.
He emphasized that only an immediate custodial sentence could serve as an appropriate punishment to send a clear message about such conduct.
Consequently, Turcinavicius was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Additionally, he was placed under a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and is required to register as a sex offender for ten years.
