ASUK HUSSAIN SENTENCED IN DEWSBURY FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF CHILD IN LEEDS CROWN COURT
On Friday, July 13, 2024, a man from Dewsbury named Asuk Hussain was handed down a significant prison sentence of 11 years at Leeds Crown Court after being found guilty of a serious sexual offence involving a minor. This conviction marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation within the North Kirklees area.Hussain, aged 53, was the latest individual to be convicted as part of Operation Tourway, a comprehensive investigation that has spanned several years and targeted the sexual exploitation and trafficking of young females in North Kirklees. The operation has uncovered disturbing patterns of abuse dating back to the late 1990s and extending into the early 2010s, with a total of 26 men now sentenced and a cumulative prison term of 378 years handed down by the courts.
The case against Hussain centered on a heinous incident that occurred in 2004, when he was found guilty of raping a girl who was only 13 years old at the time. The Leeds Crown Court heard that Hussain had previously observed the victim in her school uniform, which indicated her age and vulnerability. Exploiting her need for shelter, Hussain took advantage of her in a manner that has caused lasting trauma.
Details of the case revealed that Hussain deliberately targeted the young girl, knowing her circumstances and vulnerabilities, and used her for his own sexual gratification. The court proceedings included testimony from the victim, who was forced to relive her ordeal during the trial, a process that no doubt caused her further distress. Despite the pain of recounting her experience, her courage contributed to Hussain’s conviction.
DCI Oliver Coates of Kirklees District Police expressed his support for the sentencing, emphasizing the importance of justice for victims of such heinous crimes. He stated, “We welcome this latest sentencing in Operation Tourway, which takes us a further step forwards in convicting all the men found guilty of these awful offences.” Coates also highlighted the victim’s vulnerability, noting that Hussain had taken full advantage of her situation for his own sexual gratification.
He further urged any other victims of sexual assault who have not yet come forward to contact law enforcement. “All reports are thoroughly investigated by specialist officers who can also signpost victims to any support they may need,” Coates added. The ongoing investigation and the recent sentencing serve as a reminder of the persistent efforts by authorities to bring offenders to justice and protect vulnerable individuals in the community.
