CARDIFF SEX ATTACKER ASHMEET SONI JAILED FOR SERIES OF STREET ASSAULTS
Ashmeet Singh Soni, a man charged with carrying out multiple sexual assaults in Cardiff between June 27 and July 5 of the previous year, has been given a 10-year extended prison sentence. The offences involved two women who were targeted during daylight on busy streets—one of whom was walking with young children—where he approached from behind and either touched them unlawfully or sexually assaulted them.
The third victim was forcibly pulled into an alley and subjected to a violent assault while under the influence of alcohol.
During proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, Soni was identified as being 18, although witnesses indicated he appeared to be in his mid-20s or early 30s.
It was stated during the trial that Soni had no prior convictions, but he was convicted of assault by penetration and multiple counts of sexual assault through touching.
Judge Niclas Parry noted he was confident that Soni was an adult, and age was not a deciding factor in the sentencing decision.
The court found that Soni represented a significant risk of re-offending and potentially harming women, ruling that a standard sentence would not adequately protect the public.
Soni received an eight-year prison term along with an additional two years on extended licence.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for life and faces potential deportation once his sentence concludes.
Following the sentencing, police officials underscored the threat Soni posed, highlighting the impact on the victims and acknowledging their courage in coming forward.
