CARLISLE SEX OFFENDER VIOLATES RULES AND THREATENS WOMAN
A high-risk sex offender named Ashley McPhee, aged 26, who had recently started a new life in Carlisle after serving a jail term, committed two new offences within a month of his release.McPhee violated the strict rules of his sex offender registration by not informing the police that he had opened a Snapchat account, a requirement within three days of setting up the account.
When his phone was examined by probation staff, they discovered this account along with conversations involving a female, which he had failed to disclose.
The prosecutor, Scott Parker, described McPhee as a high-risk sex offender and explained that he was not permitted to enter any new relationships without informing his police offender manager first.
Suspicion arose because of the nature of the messages exchanged.
McPhee communicated with the woman via Snapchat and SMS, and initially, she was flattered, with some nude or semi-nude pictures exchanged.
However, his behavior escalated, including threats over the phone, driven by suspicion that she was seeing someone else.
The woman felt that McPhee was 'mad and angry,' and chose to end the contact.
McPhee has a record of 44 previous offences, some sexual, and previous failures in Ireland to comply with sex offender notification requirements.
The court heard that McPhee had indicated suicidal intentions when returned to prison.
District Judge John Temperley sentenced McPhee to 26 weeks in jail, to run concurrently with the recall period until September 15.
