BRADLEY ASHTON-FERNLEY FROM GIRLINGTON JAILED AGAIN FOR REPEATEDLY BREACHING SEXUAL OFFENCES ORDER

In September 2018, Ashley Emmett, also known as Bradley Ashton-Fernley, was sentenced to an additional 32 months in prison after being found guilty of violating a court-imposed sexual offences prevention order. The 43-year-old resident of Allerton Road, Girlington, has a long history of criminal behavior related to his inappropriate interest in young boys, which has led to multiple convictions and ongoing legal restrictions.

Emmett’s criminal record dates back to 2009 when he was first convicted of possessing indecent images of children. Following this conviction, he was sentenced to prison and was subjected to a lifetime sexual offences prevention order aimed at restricting his contact with minors and preventing further offending. Despite these measures, Emmett has repeatedly breached the order, demonstrating a persistent pattern of non-compliance and reoffending.

Bradford Crown Court heard detailed accounts of Emmett’s repeated violations, beginning shortly after his release from prison in 2012. His breaches have been ongoing, with the court noting that he has served multiple prison sentences as a consequence of his continued misconduct. The cycle of release, breach, reoffending, and incarceration has become a troubling pattern, raising serious concerns about public safety.

In 2015, Emmett’s breaches became even more alarming when he volunteered with a prison youth project. This role allowed him to have unsupervised contact with boys under the age of 16, which was explicitly prohibited by the court order. Such contact posed a significant risk to minors and was a clear violation of the restrictions placed upon him.

Most recently, the court was informed that Emmett had once again breached his sexual harm prevention order. Prosecutor Alisha Kaye explained that the breach involved his failure to notify the police about a new bank card and mobile phone. When police officers visited his residence on September 4, they discovered a debit card and a mobile phone box, which Emmett had not reported to authorities. Although he claimed to have informed his support workers about the new items, he was aware that it was his legal obligation to notify the police directly.

Judge Jonathan Rose addressed Emmett directly during sentencing, emphasizing the severity of his continued misconduct. “It is perfectly clear that you are a young man who has an entirely inappropriate interest in children,” the judge stated. “The courts have taken steps to protect the public from you, but you continue to have a sexual interest in children. You have breached the sexual offences prevention and sexual harm prevention orders made to limit your behaviour.”

Judge Rose made it clear that he did not believe a community order would be sufficient to address Emmett’s dangerous behavior. “I have no expectation that a community order will deal with your behaviour,” he said, and therefore, he sentenced him to 32 months in prison. Regarding the failure to notify authorities about the new bank card and phone, the judge remarked, “You have lied about these matters. You know full well it is the police you have to tell.”

Concluding his remarks, Judge Rose stated, “I am firmly of the view that the public needs to be protected from you,” underscoring the ongoing risk Emmett poses to society and the importance of strict legal measures to prevent further harm.
