HUDDERSFIELD COUPLE JAILED FOR LEAVING WOMAN IN VEGETATIVE STATE
A husband and his parents, including Khalid Sheikh and Shabnam Sheikh, were jailed after they left his wife in a vegetative state at their home in Huddersfield.
Ambreen Fatima Sheikh was unable to wake up after she lost consciousness in July 2015.
An ambulance was called to their residence on Clara Street, where she lived with her husband Asgar Sheikh, aged 30, and his parents.
The jury at Leeds Crown Court delivered unanimous guilty verdicts for causing or allowing serious physical harm to a vulnerable adult after a 10-hour hearing, with only Sakalyne Sheikh found not guilty.
The judge sentenced Shabnam Sheikh, Asgar Sheikh, and Khalid Sheikh to seven years and nine months in prison.
Shafuga Sheikh received an 18-month sentence suspended for two years, and Sakalayne Sheikh was given a six-month sentence, also suspended for two years.
