ASADULLAH NAJIBULLAH SHOCKS LEAMINGTON SPA WITH RAPE AND DRUGGING OF 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Leamington Spa, an Afghan British army interpreter named Asadullah Najibullah has been convicted and sentenced for heinous crimes involving a 14-year-old girl. The incident took place just months after Najibullah was granted permission to reside in the United Kingdom, raising serious questions about the vetting process and the safety of vulnerable individuals. On the evening of November 5, 2016, Najibullah lured the young girl and her two friends to his flat under the pretense of celebrating Bonfire Night. Once inside, he proceeded to serve them vodka and cannabis, substances he supplied to the teenagers in an apparent attempt to lower their inhibitions and manipulate the situation to his advantage. The court heard that Najibullah’s actions were calculated, as he called for a taxi to pick up the friends after they had consumed alcohol and cannabis, leaving him alone with the 14-year-old girl.
According to court records, the girl smoked additional cannabis while in Najibullah’s flat. It was during this time that he took advantage of her impaired state. The court was told that Najibullah removed her clothing and proceeded to sexually assault her while she was unconscious. The assault occurred without her awareness, and she only became conscious of what had transpired when she received a photograph from Najibullah showing her passed out. Her mother, noticing her daughter’s distress and the unusual phone calls from Najibullah, contacted the police, which led to his arrest.
Najibullah, who resides in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, admitted to the charges of raping the girl and supplying her with cannabis at Warwick Crown Court. His plea of guilty resulted in a sentence of seven and a half years in prison, along with a lifelong requirement to register as a sex offender. The judge, Anthony Potter, delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the gravity of Najibullah’s actions.
Judge Potter remarked, “You pleaded guilty to two offences, including the rape of a young and vulnerable girl, and the supply to her of cannabis in order to facilitate that rape. This was almost a year after you had arrived in this country, having been relocated here at the instigation of the Ministry of Defence. She was young and vulnerable, and you were significantly older, 26 at the time, with life experience far beyond her years. You supplied her with vodka and cannabis, which was a deliberate act. Once her friends left, you took her phone, and during the assault, she passed out. I must also consider your previous conduct, which has been exemplary, including your service with both the British Army and the United States Army in Afghanistan, where you provided support as an interpreter for approximately three years.”
Prosecutor Matthew Brook detailed the effects of the drugs on the girl, stating, “She had smoked cannabis before, but this had a very unusual effect on her, and she had difficulty moving her arms and legs. There was suspicion that something else might have been in the substance. Najibullah attempted to kiss her in the living room, fully aware she was only 14. Despite her protests and attempts to push him away, he persisted, pulling her clothes off and eventually raping her while she was unable to resist due to her intoxicated state.”
The girl’s ordeal did not end with the assault. She left Najibullah’s flat but was subjected to persistent harassment. Najibullah repeatedly contacted her, asking to meet, and on one occasion, showed her a photograph he had taken of her unconscious in his flat. Her mother became increasingly concerned when her daughter’s behavior and phone calls raised alarms. After being informed of the details, she contacted the police, leading to Najibullah’s arrest. Despite denying any sexual contact or knowing the girl, DNA evidence was later discovered on his pyjama bottoms, which she had worn after the assault, confirming his involvement.
This case highlights the disturbing breach of trust and the dangers faced by vulnerable young individuals, especially in cases involving individuals with military backgrounds. Najibullah’s actions have been condemned by the court, and he now faces the consequences of his criminal conduct, which has left a lasting impact on the victim and her family.
