ARTHUR WARWICK'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN PENRITH AND SCOTLAND: SEX OFFENDER'S BRUTAL PAST REVEALED
In a disturbing case that spans across the border between England and Scotland, Arthur Warwick, a 59-year-old man with a long history of sexual offenses, has been convicted of heinous crimes committed in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Warwick, who is already serving a life sentence in England for numerous child sex offenses, was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl and sexually abusing two other young girls aged 13 and 10. These offenses took place at a residence in Dumfriesshire, where Warwick had traveled from his home in Penrith, Cumbria, to visit family friends in the area.During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Warwick maintained his innocence, denying any sexual contact with the three girls and claiming that they were fabricating their stories. However, evidence presented by the prosecution, led by Lisa Gillespie, painted a different picture. She highlighted Warwick’s extensive criminal history, noting that he is currently serving a life sentence in England for sexual offenses against children spanning from 1975 to 2016. The Scottish court was informed that the offences in question were investigated by Cumbria Police, but the Crown Prosecution Service in England chose not to prosecute these particular charges, leaving the matter to the Scottish authorities.
Judge Johanna Johnston QC sentenced Warwick to an additional seven years in prison for the Scottish offenses. She made it clear that his new sentence would run concurrently with his existing English sentence. The judge also emphasized the serious nature of Warwick’s crimes, stating, “The court in England took the view that you pose a significant danger to young children.” She further ordered Warwick to be placed on the sex offenders’ register, reflecting the gravity of his actions.
During the proceedings, Warwick’s defense QC, Thomas Ross, argued that Warwick would not be eligible for parole until March 2029, when he would be 72 years old. Ross suggested that Warwick might spend the rest of his life behind bars, and that the Scottish convictions would be considered by the parole board when assessing his release prospects.
Warwick’s criminal history was further detailed during a separate hearing at Carlisle Crown Court in December 2016, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years. This sentence followed his admission to 30 separate offenses dating back to the mid-1970s, including five counts of rape of children as young as nine, 11 counts of indecent assault on children aged between none and 15, attempted rape, multiple counts of buggery on minors aged 12 to 15, and possession and making of indecent images of children. Warwick’s offending was uncovered after a police sting in March 2015, which caught him attempting to meet a child for sex. Subsequent investigations revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior, with additional victims coming forward to police.
These revelations underscore the severity and persistence of Warwick’s criminal conduct, which has caused incalculable harm to his victims and has shocked communities in Penrith, Dumfriesshire, and beyond. His case remains a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant law enforcement and the ongoing need to protect vulnerable children from predatory offenders.
