ARTHUR NAYLOR'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN NEWCASTLE AND SOUTH TYNESIDE REVEALED

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Newcastle and South Tyneside, Arthur Naylor, a man with a troubling history, was convicted of heinous crimes involving a young girl and a young boy. The incidents came to light after years of silence, revealing a pattern of abuse that has left lasting scars on the victims and their families.

According to court proceedings, Naylor, aged 35 at the time, was taken in by a family in South Tyneside when he found himself without accommodation. The family, whose identities are protected for legal reasons, provided him with a place to stay in their home. However, during his stay, Naylor committed a grave offense against the family's eight-year-old daughter. One morning, the young girl descended the stairs to find Naylor asleep on a chair in the living room. When he awoke, he proceeded to assault her sexually, threatening her with death if she disclosed the incident to her parents. Despite her fear, the girl confided in her mother, but was unable to press formal charges at that time.

It was only several years later, in 1995, that the girl finally disclosed the abuse to the police. Prosecutor Tim Parkin recounted during the trial at Newcastle Crown Court that Naylor had met a woman and developed a relationship with her. He emphasized that the girl was only eight years old when Naylor was residing in their home. The court heard that on one particular morning, the girl found Naylor asleep on a chair. When he woke, he moved closer to her, removed his jeans, and assaulted her, again threatening her with death if she told anyone. The young girl was understandably deeply distressed by the ordeal.

In addition to the assault on the young girl, Naylor faced charges related to a separate incident involving a seven-year-old boy from South Tyneside. The boy reported that Naylor had rubbed himself against him on two occasions and had told his mother about the incidents. Naylor initially attempted to shift blame, trying to attribute the rape to the girl, but the evidence was clear.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Naylor was currently residing at a Newcastle hostel. Following his guilty pleas to the charges of rape and two counts of indecent assault, he was deemed a serious risk to the public due to his history of learning difficulties and the nature of his crimes. Judge Maurice Carr ordered that Naylor be transferred to a secure hospital under the Mental Health Act and mandated that he be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. The judge emphasized the severity of the offenses and the ongoing danger Naylor poses to the community, especially to vulnerable children who may encounter him in the future.
