ROTHERHAM PAEDOPHILE HUNTER ANTON SIMPSON EXPOSED IN LIVE FACEBOOK STING
In July 2020, a disturbing case unfolded in Rotherham involving the online activities of Anton Simpson, a 27-year-old man from Orchard Place, Masbrough.Simpson became the subject of a covert operation conducted by a paedophile hunter group, which successfully tracked him down after establishing a disturbing online communication.
According to court proceedings at Sheffield Crown Court on July 14, Simpson had engaged in conversations with an online contact he believed to be a young teenage girl.
Unbeknownst to him, the profile he was communicating with was a fake account created by the group Predator Exposure, which specializes in exposing individuals attempting to engage in illegal sexual activities with minors.
The group set up this profile in December 2017, and over the following months, Simpson maintained a lengthy correspondence with the fake profile.
Prosecutor Ian West explained that the majority of the messages exchanged between Simpson and the fake contact were juvenile in nature.
However, the defendant also sent an explicit image of his private parts and discussed intimate details about the contact’s private parts, revealing a concerning level of sexual intent.
The court was shown live footage of Simpson’s visit to his home, which was streamed on Facebook by the paedophile hunter group as part of their sting operation.
During the hearing, Simpson pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to cause a child aged 13 to 15 to view sexual activity, attempting to induce a girl to engage in sexual acts, attempting to communicate sexually with a child, and facilitating a child sex offence.
These offences spanned from December 2017 through April 2018, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior.
Judge David Dixon addressed Simpson directly, stating, “The reality is you were talking with someone you believed was a child.
If it had been a real child, you may have caused significant harm.” The judge acknowledged that much of the conversation was “nonsense,” but emphasized that some comments were of a sexual and worrying nature.
He further warned Simpson about the potential consequences of custodial sentences, noting that imprisonment could make him vulnerable and expose him to negative influences, ultimately making the community less safe.
As part of his sentencing, Simpson was given a three-year community order, which includes a 90-day sex offender programme and a 40-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Additionally, he was placed under a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, aimed at restricting his future conduct and protecting the community from potential harm.
