ANTHONY VIPOND SENTENCED IN REDDITCH FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND COERCIVE CONTROL

A man from Redditch has been sentenced to 11 months in prison after being found guilty of a serious domestic abuse offence. Anthony Vipond, who resides on Felton Close in Redditch, appeared in court on Wednesday, March 5, where he pleaded guilty to charges of coercive and controlling behaviour that inflicted significant harm on his victim.

Over the course of a year, Vipond subjected his partner to a pattern of abusive actions designed to dominate and manipulate her. His control extended to invasive checks of her phone, demanding that she send him photographs to verify her whereabouts, and using derogatory language to demean her. These actions created an environment of fear and intimidation, severely impacting her mental and emotional well-being.

During this period of abuse, Vipond also systematically isolated his victim from her friends and family, cutting off her social support network and making it more difficult for her to seek help or escape the situation. The abuse was not only psychological but also physical, as Vipond assaulted her on multiple occasions. He refused her access to medical treatment for her injuries, further demonstrating his intent to exert power and control over her life.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed a five-year restraining order against Vipond, prohibiting him from contacting or approaching the victim. This legal measure aims to protect her from further harm and to help her rebuild her life free from his influence.

PC Helen Eurell, a member of Redditch's Response Team, expressed her support for the victim and emphasized the importance of justice in cases like this. She stated, “I wish to pass on my utmost respect to the victim, who has so bravely and patiently supported the investigation. She was subjected to serious domestic abuse behind doors, which did and still does, significantly impact her life. I hope the sentence and restraining order given to Vipond will provide the victim with a form of closure, and she can rebuild her life.”

PC Eurell also highlighted the significance of recent legal developments, noting that controlling and coercive behaviour is a relatively new offence. She expressed satisfaction that offenders like Vipond are being held accountable, adding, “I hope this gives confidence to others that police will take such allegations seriously and will do our best to bring offenders to justice.”
