ANTHONY TAYLOR BUSTED IN BURY AND RADCLIFFE FOR GROOMING AND ILLEGAL DISCO WITH KIDS

In April 2013, Anthony Taylor, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses, found himself back in the spotlight after being arrested for breaching court orders and engaging in activities that put children at risk in the towns of Bury and Radcliffe.

Anthony Scott Taylor, who resides on Hornby Street in Bury, had previously served time for a series of heinous sex attacks on a 15-year-old girl in Northern Ireland. In 2010, Taylor was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of unlawful carnal knowledge, which involved sexual encounters with the girl between September and December 2007. The court heard that Taylor had traveled to Antrim, Northern Ireland, on three separate occasions during a four-month span, booking into hotels to meet and engage in sexual activities with the underage girl he had met through an internet chat room.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Taylor had not only traveled to hotels in Antrim but also had come to the realization that the girl was only 15 years old. Despite this, he claimed that the sex was consensual and that the girl was an experienced and willing participant. The girl herself told police that she believed Taylor had done nothing wrong, a statement that underscored the disturbing nature of the case. The court was informed that Taylor had initially been told of her age by the girl herself, to which he responded, “That’s all right.”

Further details emerged during the trial, including that Taylor had booked into hotels in Antrim three times in 2007, often after contacting the girl via phone and text messages. On one occasion, the girl arrived at the hotel directly from school, still in her uniform and carrying her schoolbooks, leaving no doubt about her age. The girl recounted to police that she had informed Taylor of her age at their first meeting, and he had responded positively. Despite Taylor’s claims that he had not discussed her age and that their encounters were consensual, the court found the evidence compelling enough to sentence him to prison. Additionally, Taylor was ordered to register as a sex offender and was banned from having unsupervised contact with anyone under 18 for five years.

However, Taylor’s criminal behavior did not end with his previous convictions. In March 2013, he was found to be organizing a monthly disco event at the Funtastic Play Centre in Radcliffe, a venue known for hosting children’s activities. The event was intended for children under the age of 11, and Taylor performed as a DJ for over two hours, entertaining a crowd of approximately 25 children for a fee of just £30. The venue’s management became aware of Taylor’s past after the first event on March 1 and promptly contacted the police.

Following the discovery, authorities arrested Taylor for breaching the conditions of his sex offender order. During the police interview, Taylor claimed he was unaware of the restrictions that prohibited him from working with children or having unsupervised contact with minors. An employee at the Funtastic Play Centre, who had approached Taylor about DJing at the event, confirmed that she had made it clear to him that the party was for children under 11. The children arrived at the event at around 5:45 pm, supervised by their parents, and the party concluded at 8 pm, with Taylor leaving shortly after.

Emma Savage, representing Taylor, argued that her client was confused about the conditions of his sex offender order and that he needed further support and guidance. Despite this, the court sentenced Taylor to a six-month community order with supervision, along with a fine of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60. The Funtastic Play Centre expressed their disappointment over the incident, stating that they were deeply upset but relieved that the matter had been addressed appropriately.

Shazia Aslam, prosecuting, emphasized that Taylor was explicitly prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults and from having any unsupervised contact with individuals under 18 unless approved by parents or police authorities. The case highlighted the ongoing risks posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially when they attempt to re-engage with children in community settings. The authorities’ swift response and the court’s strict sentencing aimed to reinforce the message that protecting minors remains a top priority, and that violations of such orders will be met with serious consequences.
