LIVERPOOL MAN WHO RAPED HIS GIRLFRIEND'S DEAD BODY BEFORE KILLING HER MOTHER AND THEIR DOG JAILED FOR LIFE
Anthony Showers, a 42-year-old resident of Anfield in Liverpool, was found guilty of the brutal murders of his former partner Jade Hales, aged 28, her disabled mother Karen, aged 53, and their pet Staffordshire bull terrier Tyson.Showers admitted to causing Jade and Karen’s deaths on June 12 at their Liverpool residence.
Court proceedings revealed that he had spent five hours inside after breaking into the home, leaving each victim in their own bedroom before surrendering to authorities the following day.
Although he confessed to the killings, Showers denied raping Jade or using the hammer located at the scene.
Judge Mr.
Justice Timothy King described his explanation as 'incredible' and handed down a life sentence with a minimum term of 29.5 years.
Showers also claimed that he and Jade had smoked cannabis and engaged in consensual sex, a version the court dismissed.
The trial presented forensic evidence indicating Jade was raped 'either as she was dying or shortly afterward.' Family members described Jade as petite, weighing only about five stone.
An emotional victim personal statement presented by Jade’s sister Amanda Hales characterized Showers as a 'bully' and 'monster' who subjected her sister and mother to emotional, mental, and physical torture.
Jade’s father, Alyn Cole, stated that the killings were 'beyond comprehension' and criticized Showers for showing no remorse.
It was revealed that Showers had a history of violence and previously claimed he found the murder weapon at Jade’s home, only to return later to retrieve it after knocking on the door with no answer.
In delivering the sentence, the judge emphasized the vulnerability of the victims and the brutality and lethality of the attacks, which caused profound grief to the families involved.
