ANTHONY QUIGLEY FROM CO CORK JAILED FOR HARASSMENT AND ASSAULT ON BUS AND WOMAN IN MITCHELSTOWN
In a case that has drawn significant attention in Co Cork, Anthony Quigley, a 45-year-old man from Roches Heights, Mitchelstown, has been sentenced to a total of three and a half years in prison following convictions related to harassment, assault, and threatening behaviour. The incidents span different locations within Co Cork, including a distressing bus journey and an assault on a woman in Mitchelstown, highlighting a pattern of troubling conduct.On December 4 of the previous year, Quigley was found guilty by Cork Circuit Criminal Court of multiple charges, including one count of sexual assault and four counts of harassment, all occurring during a bus ride. The court also convicted him of engaging in threatening language or behaviour and a separate count of common assault directed at one of the teenage girls involved. Despite his denial of the charges, a jury unanimously found him guilty on all counts.
The sexual assault incident involved a teenage girl who testified that Quigley had been making racist jokes about Chinese people and individuals with dots on their foreheads. She recounted how he asked for their names, shook their hands, and then engaged in inappropriate physical contact, including patting her shoulder and upper thigh. She described feeling terrified as Quigley rubbed her back, asked about her social media accounts, and made suggestive comments about her appearance. She also noted that Quigley wrote down his phone number and urged her to call him, expressing hope that she would send him compliments. The girl described her fear and discomfort during the encounter, which she said was marked by his persistent inappropriate remarks and physical contact.
