SCHOOLGIRL SUBJECTED TO 'TERRIFYING' SEX ATTACK ON MAID MARIAN WAY
A 52-year-old man has been jailed for a terrifying sexual assault on a schoolgirl and for being abusive to a mother with her children in the street.Anthony Parnell, of no fixed address, was sentenced to four months for the sexual assault and four months consecutively for threatening behaviour with intent.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was waiting on a bench on Maid Marian Way, Nottingham, July 20.
Parnell sat nearby for five to ten minutes before approaching her, muttering, asking if they "had a smoke," offering beer, and picking up a cigarette.
He commented twice that she had "beautiful legs," then touched her knee, stroked her thigh, and touched her private area over her clothing, moving his hand back along her thigh.
The girl told him "no" twice, filmed her assault, and was upset and crying.
Her father arrived and took her to police.
Parnell was arrested nearby, denying the incident, claiming he could not recall and that he had drunk seven to eight bottles of beer.
He later said "it might be me, or someone dressed as me" after seeing footage.
A victim impact statement revealed the teenager, who cannot be identified, has reduced her outings and worries about missing her summer holiday.
Court mitigation described Parnell as "thoroughly ashamed and embarrassed".
Ten days earlier, Parnell threatened a mother-of-two in College Street, Nottingham, when she returned to her car.
He shouted threats to kill her and her children, and threatened to smash her car, before a witness intervened.
He pleaded guilty to both offences.
Judge Mark Watson highlighted that these involved Parnell "accosting innocent females who at the time were strangers to you." He was jailed for the offences.
