ANTHONY LOWE'S BRUTAL MURDER OF KATHERINE SMITH IN CARDIFF LEADS TO LIFE SENTENCE

Anthony Lowe, a 46-year-old resident of Riverside, Cardiff, was handed a life imprisonment sentence following his conviction for the savage killing of Katherine Smith, a 26-year-old woman he had connected with through the popular online dating platform, Plenty of Fish. Lowe appeared before Cardiff Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to the murder, which was described during the proceedings as a 'ferocious attack' that left a lasting impact on all involved.

The court was informed that Lowe inflicted a total of 33 stab wounds on Ms. Smith, targeting vital areas including her back, heart, and lungs. The attack took place at her flat on September 27, after a heated argument between the two. The details of the incident revealed a disturbing level of violence, with Lowe's assault described as particularly brutal and relentless.

It was also disclosed that Lowe had initially used a false identity to meet Ms. Smith, claiming to be younger and adopting the alias Tony Moore. This deception was part of his attempt to conceal his true identity from her. Following the murder, Lowe stole Ms. Smith’s car and engaged in further disturbing behavior by attempting to contact other women online. Evidence presented in court showed that even after the killing, he messaged a woman with the words, 'You look stunning,' a fact prosecutors labeled as 'chilling.'

In a further display of remorse or perhaps guilt, Lowe sent a text message to Ms. Smith’s mother, claiming her daughter was dead and expressing regret with the words, 'I am sorry but that won't make up for me killing your daughter.' His arrest came later that day when he was detained outside a Tesco store in Weston-super-Mare.

Ms. Smith’s family paid an emotional tribute during the court proceedings. Her mother described her as 'beautiful, intelligent and caring,' adding that 'our hearts are broken and nothing in this life will ever mend that.' The court ultimately sentenced Lowe to serve a minimum of 18 years before he could be considered for parole, with a life sentence officially imposed.
