MAN WHO SCARRED GIRLFRIEND IMPRISONED
A MAN who scarred his girlfriend for life in a brutal' attack has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.Anthony Haspell, 20, of Nixon Drive, dragged his victim Terri Falland over broken glass and stabbed her in the breast with a broken bottle during the attack on June 23 last year.
She was dragged by her hair across the car park of Liquid Lounge nightclub before being repeatedly punched and kicked while on the ground.
Prosecutor Robert Trevor Jones told Chester Crown Court on Friday that Miss Falland, 29, suffered deep cuts to her arms and legs, bruising to her body and a number of her fingers were badly mangled.
The attack started after Haspell began questioning his victim about a former partner outside the nightclub.
Mr Trevor Jones said: "It was a sustained and brutal attack which resulted in significant and severe lacerations and very real cosmetic consequences, and psychological consequences, for her." Defending, Duncan Bould told the court his client could not remember the incident, having drunk a bottle of vodka and bottles of lager, but was remorseful.
Miss Falland has been scarred for life following the incident and police welcomed the sentence given to Haspell.
Trainee Det Con Sara Morris, who led the investigation, said: "This was a nasty, violent assault which will never be forgotten by the victim.
I applaud the courage she has shown throughout the case and I hope the fact that the offender is now behind bars gives her a little comfort.
I would like to thank everyone involved in the case for their work and hope those who use aggressive behaviour take heed of the result.
Use violence and you could end up in jail."
