MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND DOMESTIC ABUSE
A woman reported a violent assault by her boyfriend outside Lime Street Station, which was caught on CCTV.Anthony Griffiths repeatedly kicked his helpless partner after knocking her to the ground and then dragged her around by her hair, ripping out clumps of hair in the process.
Following the assault, Griffiths dismissed his actions as 'not that bad' and attempted to justify his behavior by claiming that his girlfriend was 'cheating on him and goading him.' It emerged that Griffiths has a history of domestic violence, with 40 previous convictions for 62 offences, including assault, wounding, and attempted robbery.
The incident occurred on March 27, during a night out in Liverpool city centre.
CCTV footage showed Griffiths chasing his girlfriend, pulling her to the ground, kicking her, and even chasing off bystanders who tried to help her.
When police arrived, they noted Griffiths appeared to be under the influence of drugs and he directed homophobic slurs at officers.
When shown the footage, Griffiths expressed remorse but continued to blame his partner for provoking him.
He admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a public order offence.
At Liverpool Crown Court, he was sentenced to 23 months in prison.
The judge described the attack as 'appalling and sustained,' emphasizing that Griffiths ran at the victim repeatedly, kicked her head and legs, and threatened bystanders, who described her as being in 'considerable fear.' The court also highlighted Griffiths' extensive criminal record and previous abusive behavior, and the judge stated that there was no compelling mitigation for his actions.
