HUNTINGDON PAEDOPHILE ANTHONY BURN SENTENCED TO EXTENDED LIFE FOR DECADES OF ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the community of Huntingdon and the surrounding regions, Anthony Burn, a man with a long history of heinous crimes, has seen his prison sentence extended following a series of disturbing sexual offenses against young girls. Burn, aged 57 and residing on Sycamore Drive in Huntingdon, was initially sentenced to life imprisonment in June, with a minimum term of 15 years. However, after a recent hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, August 27, his minimum term has been increased to 20 years, underscoring the severity and ongoing danger posed by his actions.Burn’s criminal activities span nearly four decades, beginning in his late teens during the early 1980s. His offending history reveals a pattern of predatory behavior that remained largely undetected for years. The court heard that Burn managed to carry out his abuse “under the radar,” targeting seven young girls over the years in a campaign of repeated rape and sexual assault. These crimes, which have left deep scars on the victims, were committed across different regions, initially in Northumberland and later in Cambridgeshire after Burn moved from the North East.
The court documents detailed that Burn was responsible for nine counts of rape, involving five victims between 1982 and 2011 in Northumbria. In addition to these, he pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a child under 13, sexual assault of a child under 13, and another count of rape related to offenses committed in Cambridgeshire. The gravity of his crimes was emphasized by Judge Christopher Prince, who described Burn as “extremely dangerous” and stated that he would continue to pose a risk to others until the day he dies.
Judge Prince condemned Burn’s actions as “abhorrent to any right-thinking person,” highlighting the serious nature of his offenses. He remarked that the risk posed by Burn is ongoing and that his crimes are among the worst of their kind to have come before the court. The judge’s comments serve as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of Burn’s predatory behavior and the importance of justice for his victims. The extended sentence reflects the court’s recognition of the continued threat that Burn represents to society, especially to vulnerable children, and underscores the long-lasting consequences of his actions.
