ANTHONY BAWDEN FROM MORETON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN WIRRAL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Moreton and the wider Wirral area, Anthony Bawden, a resident of Sandbourne Heights on Stavordale Road, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for serious sexual offenses committed against a young girl during the early 1980s. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of the case, which spanned over a period of two years and involved a girl aged between five and seven at the time.Anthony Bawden, aged 40, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of indecent assault and three counts of gross indecency. The severity of his actions was underscored by the judge, John Roberts, who emphasized the gravity of the offenses, noting that they involved a vulnerable young girl and occurred over an extended period.
As part of his sentencing, Bawden was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offenses. The prosecution, led by Nichola Davies, explained that the crimes came to light only last summer when the victim, now an adult, reported the incidents to the police. The offenses took place between March 1982 and March 1985, during which time the young girl was subjected to unacceptable and criminal conduct.
The case has brought to light the disturbing reality of child abuse cases that sometimes remain hidden for years before being brought to justice. The community of Moreton and the surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and supportive of victims of such heinous crimes, ensuring that justice is served and that offenders are held accountable for their actions.
