ANGELA GUTHRIE'S CAT HOARDING HORROR IN PAISLEY

Angela Guthrie, a woman originally from Birmingham, has become notorious in Paisley for her severe neglect of a large number of cats she kept in her home.

Born on March 1, 1962, Guthrie had moved to 124 Ferguslie, Paisley PA1 2XP by July 2018, where her situation with her pets drew significant concern from authorities and animal welfare groups.

Over the years, Guthrie accumulated a total of 69 cats, which she kept confined within her small council house on Skye Crescent.

Her collection of felines was a result of her gradually taking in both male and female cats, which she herded into her mid-terraced residence.

As her hoarding continued, her home became increasingly overwhelmed by the animals, leading to deplorable living conditions.

Guthrie’s inability to properly care for her cats became evident as her home descended into squalor.

The three bedrooms and the living room were reportedly covered in feces, urine, and accumulated rubbish, creating an environment that was hazardous and unfit for any living creature.

The cats, of various ages and colors, suffered from neglect, with Guthrie failing to provide adequate water and nutrition for them.

She only supplied two litter trays for all the animals, which was grossly insufficient given the number of cats she kept.

Legal proceedings were initiated against Guthrie due to her neglectful treatment of her pets.

She was scheduled to stand trial on charges related to her failure to care for the cats properly, including neglect and inadequate provision of water and food.

However, she reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, which resulted in the removal of some of the more serious allegations from her charges in exchange for her guilty plea.

As part of her sentencing, Guthrie was fined £320 and received a four-year ban from owning or keeping more than one cat.

This ban was set to expire in October 2019.

The case drew attention from local media, including Birmingham Live, which reported on the incident on October 12, 2015, highlighting the severity of her neglect and the legal consequences she faced for her actions in Paisley.
