GLENROTHES GREENKEEPER SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULT
A young man from Glenrothes named Andrew Wood, aged 19, was involved in abusive behavior towards his former partner in September 2021. The incident occurred at a property in East Wemyss, where Wood assaulted the woman by pressing his forearm against her neck against a fridge. She managed to free herself, but Wood responded by smashing a picture frame, damaging a blind, and throwing glass around the property. Later, he continued to contact her through messages, asking to rekindle their relationship. When she returned home from work, Wood entered her flat without permission, having not locked the door, and took a kitchen knife, cutting his own forearm in front of her. Shortly after midnight on September 13, Wood knocked on her door and forced entry by damaging the lock. He then left and surrendered himself at a police station. At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, he pleaded guilty to a pattern of abusive behavior towards his former partner from September 9 to 13. Previously, a non-harassment order was issued against him to prevent contact with another former partner. The sheriff sentenced Wood to 150 hours of unpaid work as part of a Community Payback order and placed him under supervision for 18 months. The judge expressed concern about his behavior, stating, “I think it’s a bit of an understatement to say there’s a bit of concern about you.” Wood is an apprentice greenkeeper at Elmwood College.
