ANDREW WILLIAMS FROM FELIXSTOWE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN EAST ANGLIA

In a serious case that has once again cast a shadow over Felixstowe, Andrew Williams, a 44-year-old resident of Grange Farm Avenue, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing and creating indecent images of children, including extreme pornography. The arrest took place in March of the previous year, when police officers executed a search warrant at Williams' home and confiscated his laptop computer, which contained a vast collection of illicit material.

Williams' criminal history includes a prior conviction from 2003, when he was jailed for five months for 16 offences related to child exploitation images. During the recent investigation, Williams admitted to having resumed viewing child pornography approximately two years before his arrest, indicating a relapse after a decade of abstinence. His recent offences involved the possession of nearly 40,000 indecent images, along with 531 moving images, some of which were classified in the most severe category of child exploitation material.

The court heard detailed statistics about the images found on Williams' device: 38,276 indecent images and 531 videos of children, with 2,461 images in the most serious level A category, 6,933 in category B, and 29,413 in the lowest level C. Additionally, there were 360 extreme pornographic images and 255 movies, highlighting the severity and depravity of the material involved.

Judge John Devaux emphasized that Williams' previous conviction in 2003 was an aggravating factor in the case. While noting that Williams had no other convictions apart from his earlier sentence, the judge pointed out that Williams had avoided viewing such material for about ten years before 'returning to his old ways.' The judge stated that the offences exceeded the custody threshold due to the large volume of images and videos, especially those in the most serious categories.

During the proceedings, Williams' defense lawyer, Steven Dyble, explained that his client had reoffended after a significant period of time, citing depression and work-related stress as contributing factors. Dyble also mentioned that Williams had sought help from a private organization and participated in a two-month course aimed at addressing his behavior. The lawyer acknowledged the seriousness of the offences but urged the court to consider a sentence that would help prevent future reoffending, noting that Williams had inadvertently downloaded images of children much younger than those he initially sought.

In a related case from October 2003, Williams, then 31 and residing in Hadleigh, was sentenced to five months in jail after admitting to downloading over 2,000 child abuse images over a three-year period. His crimes were uncovered when a friend, who was helping him with his computer, took the device to Felixstowe police station for analysis. The police investigation, part of the nationwide Operation Queensbury, revealed the extent of Williams' illegal activities. As part of his sentence, Williams was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years, underscoring the ongoing concern about his conduct and the risks posed to the community.
