ANDREW WELSH FROM OLD COLWYN JAILED FOR ONLINE SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGERS IN LLANDUDNO AND BULGARIA

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Old Colwyn and the wider North Wales area, Andrew Welsh, a 29-year-old former DJ and volunteer at Tudno FM, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for engaging in online activities that involved attempting to incite underage girls to participate in sexual acts. Welsh’s actions spanned across different countries and involved highly inappropriate and illegal communications with minors.

Welsh believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl, but in reality, he was speaking to an undercover police officer. The conversations were of a highly sexual nature, and Welsh’s intent was clear in his messages. Additionally, he engaged in similar conversations with a 14-year-old girl in Bulgaria, where authorities uncovered a staggering 1,500 messages exchanged over a period of five months. These messages included explicit content and discussions about abuse, torture, mutilation, and even murder involving young girls.

During the court proceedings at Mold Crown Court, it was revealed that Welsh had sent explicit images of himself, including photographs of his genitalia, and had persuaded the teenage girl in Bulgaria to send him videos of herself. His online activities also involved the distribution of indecent images of children, which he admitted to during the trial. Welsh’s criminal record includes charges of downloading and distributing child pornography, as well as attempting to incite minors to engage in sexual activities.

Judge Niclas Parry sentenced Welsh to a total of 27 months in prison. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order to restrict Welsh’s future online activities and ordered him to register as a sex offender with the police for the next ten years. Welsh’s actions have not only led to his imprisonment but have also caused significant concern regarding the safety of children and the need for vigilant online monitoring and law enforcement intervention in such cases.
