ANDREW TONNER AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES FOUND IN NEWCASTLE AND HEBBURN
A profoundly disturbing case has emerged involving Andrew Tonner, a 46-year-old man whose criminal activities related to child exploitation came to light following an investigation in Newcastle. The case reveals a collection of despicable images and videos depicting young children in extreme distress, some as young as two years old.
The authorities uncovered that Tonner had been actively downloading these depraved materials online.
The investigation revealed that he had only been accessing the illicit content for a brief period of three days when police intelligence indicated that the materials were being uploaded to a social media account associated with him.
This prompted a police operation which led to the search of his residence in Heaton.
During the search, officers recovered a total of 15 horrifying images and 19 videos stored on electronic devices linked to Tonner.
Despite his attempts to delete some files, they remained accessible on his devices.
Specifically, ten of the images and 18 of the videos were classified as Category A, the most severe classification indicating acts involving sexual penetration.
Following his arrest and the discovery of these materials, Tonner, who has since relocated from his previous address in Heaton to Landfall Drive in Hebburn, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.
There, he entered a guilty plea to three counts of making an indecent image of a child.
The prosecution outlined that these offences took place between November 11 and November 14 of the previous year.
Prosecutor April Hall emphasized the gravity of the case, stating that it should be transferred to the Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing.
She detailed that police had reason to visit Tonner’s address on November 16, 2021, following intelligence reports about the uploading of indecent images of children to a social media account linked to him.
The case is further compounded by the ages of the victims involved, ranging approximately from two to 14 years old.
An especially distressing element was noted: one of the videos showed a child experiencing extreme distress.
Defense attorney Matthew Purves concurred that the matter should be referred to the higher court for sentencing.
In the meantime, Tonner was granted unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on October 20.
Until that sentencing, he is required to sign the Sex Offenders' Register in accordance with legal obligations.
This case underscores the ongoing concern regarding child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to combat such heinous crimes.
The community remains alerted to the dangers posed by individuals like Andrew Tonner, who manipulate and harm vulnerable children through digital means.
