ANDREW THOMPSON FROM WARRINGTON CAUGHT IN SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENSES AT LOCAL CENTRE
A disturbing case involving a convicted paedophile has come to light in Warrington, where Andrew Thompson, aged 32, was apprehended after authorities uncovered a hidden camera installed in the toilets of an Air Training Corps (ATC) centre. The discovery of this covert device triggered a comprehensive police investigation that revealed Thompson’s disturbing history of sexual misconduct.
It was in July 2022 when a vigilant staff member at the ATC centre, where Thompson was a volunteer, stumbled upon the concealed camera.
This device was cleverly hidden, but forensic experts quickly identified it as a tool used for illicit activities.
Upon examination, investigators found thousands of indecent images of children stored on the device, along with footage capturing Thompson himself installing the camera.
The evidence was overwhelming and pointed directly to his involvement in child exploitation.
Authorities traced the device back to Thompson, who resided on Rossall Road in Great Sankey, Warrington.
His arrest took place on December 23, 2022, during which police also seized additional electronic gadgets.
These devices contained numerous images of children, some of which had been taken at the school where Thompson worked as a teaching assistant, raising serious concerns about his conduct in educational environments.
Further investigations involved speaking with several children known to Thompson.
Some of these minors disclosed that he had sexually assaulted them, adding a deeply troubling dimension to the case.
As a result, Thompson was re-arrested and formally charged in September 2023.
His court appearance revealed a long list of serious charges, including nine counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13, 19 counts of voyeurism, two counts of creating and downloading indecent images of children, and one count of possessing such images.
Thompson ultimately pleaded guilty to all charges in Chester Crown Court.
His guilty plea led to a significant prison sentence of eight years.
In addition to his incarceration, the court mandated that he must register as a sex offender for life, impose a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), and issue restraining orders to prevent him from contacting his victims.
Cheshire Police’s Detective Inspector Simon Mills described Thompson as a “sexual predator,” emphasizing the gravity of his actions.
He stated, “He abused his position and it’s clear that he had no regard for his victims; his only concern was to fulfill his own sexual gratification.” The case highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Thompson and underscores the importance of vigilance and thorough investigation in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
