ANDREW STOPFORTH FROM FLOOKBURGH JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES OFFENCES IN CUMBRIA
In a significant case highlighting ongoing efforts to combat serious and organized crime within Cumbria, Andrew Stopforth, a 54-year-old resident of Flookburgh, has been sentenced to prison after being found in possession of indecent images of children.The case was brought to light through the diligent work of Cumbria’s Cyber and Digital Crime Unit, which continues to target individuals involved in the distribution and possession of such harmful material.
Stopforth appeared before Preston Crown Court on May 26, following a thorough investigation by detectives.
The investigation was initiated after police received information indicating the presence of an indecent image of a child on his devices.
This tip-off prompted a series of inquiries that ultimately identified Stopforth as the suspect.
Subsequently, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at his residence in Flookburgh.
During the search, they seized multiple electronic devices belonging to him.
A detailed examination of these devices revealed not only the indecent images of children but also additional material depicting individuals who were unaware that their images were being recorded or captured without their consent.
In court, Stopforth admitted to three counts of making indecent images of children, as well as three charges of voyeurism.
His guilty pleas led to a sentencing of 32 months in prison.
Furthermore, he was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect for ten years.
This order is designed to restrict his activities and prevent further harm.
Additionally, Stopforth is now subject to indefinite sex offender notification requirements, meaning he must regularly update authorities about his whereabouts and activities.
This measure aims to monitor his conduct and mitigate any potential risk to the community.
