ANDREW SHAW FROM HULL JAILED AGAIN FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST TWO BOYS
In August 2023, Hull Crown Court sentenced Andrew Shaw, a man with a troubling history of sexual offences, to an additional prison term after he was found guilty of committing further sex crimes against two young boys.Shaw, who is currently incarcerated in Leicester Prison, has been branded a dangerous offender due to the serious nature of his latest actions and the significant risk he poses of reoffending.
Andrew Shaw, aged 44 and formerly residing on Redcar Street in Hull, was already serving a lengthy sentence for previous crimes when these new offences came to light.
His earlier convictions include a 2016 conviction at Hull Crown Court for two counts of raping a woman and possessing indecent images of a child, crimes committed in November 2014.
At the time of the recent offences, Shaw was serving a 10-and-a-half-year sentence at Full Sutton Prison near Pocklington.
The recent allegations emerged in July 2019 when the mother of one of the victims reported the incident to the police.
The new offences involved Shaw engaging in sexual acts in the presence of a young boy, which included filming the acts and watching pornography with the child.
On a separate occasion, Shaw targeted another boy, further demonstrating his predatory behavior.
During police interviews conducted at Full Sutton Prison in 2019, Shaw admitted to using heroin and crack cocaine at the time of the offences.
He denied any sexual interest in children and claimed that he was under the influence of drugs, which he blamed for his behavior.
Shaw also denied any sexual misconduct towards the first boy, accusing him of lying, and similarly denied any involvement with the second victim.
The impact on the victims has been profound.
The first boy described Shaw as a monster who took away his innocence and childhood, leading to feelings of shame, anxiety, and a sense of being forever scarred.
He expressed hope that with his family's support, he could continue to be strong despite the trauma.
The second boy reported suffering from anxiety and difficulties at school, with hopes that ongoing therapy would aid his recovery.
Prosecutor Michele Stuart-Lofthouse highlighted that Shaw’s addiction to drugs and pornography played a significant role in his offending.
Evidence also indicated that Shaw engaged in online conversations about sharing the sexual footage he had filmed, further illustrating his dangerous and manipulative behavior.
Judge Kate Rayfield addressed Shaw’s conduct, noting that he attempted to prevent the first boy from reporting the abuse and that he had used gifts to groom his victims.
The judge emphasized that Shaw’s victims were particularly vulnerable and that his actions demonstrated a severe lack of empathy and a disturbing sexual interest in children.
In her sentencing remarks, Judge Rayfield pointed out that Shaw’s denial of the offences and his failure to recognize the deeper issues underlying his behavior underscored his dangerousness.
She stated that Shaw’s addiction issues did not excuse his conduct and that he posed a high risk of reoffending.
Consequently, Shaw was sentenced to an additional three years and nine months in prison, to run consecutively with his existing sentence.
This means he will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least nine and a half years in total.
Furthermore, Shaw will be subject to an extended license period of one year upon his release and has been issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to protect the public from potential future offences.
The court’s decision reflects the serious concern over Shaw’s dangerousness and the need to prevent him from harming more vulnerable children in the future.
