ANDREW ROBERTSON FROM BUCKHAVEN FACES JAIL AFTER FAKED ROBBERY CLAIM IN EDINBURGH

In May 2019, Andrew Robertson, a 49-year-old resident of Eagle Road in Buckhaven, found himself at the center of a serious legal case after fabricating a story about a robbery that supposedly took place in Edinburgh. Robertson claimed that he had been attacked by two unidentified men who stole his laptop and bag during the incident. This false report was made to police in an attempt to cover up his own actions, but the truth eventually surfaced during an investigation.

Initially, Robertson presented himself as a victim of a violent assault, alleging that he had been struck from behind by two men who then made off with his belongings. The police launched a full investigation into his claims, which included interviews and evidence collection. However, officers grew increasingly suspicious as Robertson’s demeanor during questioning appeared overly nervous and his account of the events kept changing. Eventually, Robertson admitted that his initial story was false. He confessed to having thrown his laptop into a bin in Edinburgh, rather than being stolen during a robbery. During a hearing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Sheriff Alastair Thornton was informed of Robertson’s actions and background. The court was told that Robertson had made false representations to police officers at both his home and Levenmouth Police Station on February 16. The sheriff emphasized the seriousness of the case, indicating that a custodial sentence was likely to be the outcome. He ordered a background report to be prepared before sentencing, which is scheduled for next month. The sheriff made it clear that Robertson’s actions warranted significant punishment, given the nature of the deception and his criminal history.
