MARLBOROUGH COLLEGE TEACHER CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
Friday, 24 March 2006: A former mathematics teacher and house master has avoided imprisonment after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children.
Andrew Richards, aged 44, was employed at Marlborough College in Wiltshire in April last year when concerns arose that he had accessed inappropriate material online.
He pleaded guilty to two charges related to the possession of child pornography during a hearing on Friday.
Magistrates sentenced him to a two-year conditional discharge, mandated that he register as a sex offender, and ordered him to pay court costs of £35.
The school's staff contacted authorities last April after becoming suspicious that Richards had stored unsuitable content on his computer.
Police officers seized his electronic devices, leading to his subsequent arrest and formal charges.
Following these events, Richards left Marlborough College.
He is currently residing in Balerno, near Edinburgh, where he is engaged in a postgraduate course, Salisbury Magistrates Court was informed.
