BURNLEY MAN SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR RAPE OF DRUNK WOMAN
A man named Andrew Murray, aged 23 and residing on Morse Street in Burnley, has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to the rape of a woman who had fallen asleep after getting drunk at a house party. The court heard that the incident occurred on March 25 last year when Murray raped the woman twice at a house in Burnley.
After the assault, the woman, who had been put into a child's single bed after becoming intoxicated, fell asleep and later reported the attack to the police through a third party.
Despite Murray's claims during police questioning that he was not responsible, forensic DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
The court was informed that Murray, who had no prior convictions and was described as being of good character, maintained his innocence throughout the investigation.
The police officer involved, DC Neil Swindells of Burnley CID, stated that the attack was particularly serious because the victim was vulnerable due to her state of intoxication and that she was afraid to report the crime immediately.
The article describes Murray's sentencing and highlights the importance of forensic evidence in linking him to the crime.
