ANDREW MOORE FROM HATHERSHAW, OLDHAM, SENTENCED AFTER REPEATED RAPE AND VIOLENCE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Hathershaw, Oldham, Andrew Moore, a man aged 62, was convicted of heinous crimes involving sexual assault and violence. Moore, who has a troubling criminal history, was initially sentenced to a 12-year prison term by Manchester Crown Court for the assault and brutal rape of a woman in January 2011. This sentencing followed a previous conviction in December 1995, where he received a 10-year sentence for the rape and indecent assault of a 12-year-old girl, highlighting a long-standing pattern of predatory behavior.

During the recent court proceedings, Judge Khokhar expressed his belief that Moore showed no remorse for his actions. The court detailed that Moore was sentenced to serve 12 years for the rape, an additional two years for causing serious bodily harm, and 18 months for actual bodily harm. These sentences are to run concurrently, with an added three-year extended license period, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the need for continued supervision.

The case revealed that Moore had met his latest victim through an advertisement she posted as a sex worker four years prior to the assault. The relationship that ensued lasted for two years and resulted in the birth of a child, who is now in care. The charges against Moore stemmed from two separate incidents in early 2011. The first involved a violent rape at his residence on Pellowe Road, Hathershaw. Although there had been some consensual sexual activity in the days leading up to the assault, the victim became increasingly distressed when Moore asked her to pretend to be a five-year-old girl, indicating disturbing sexual preferences.

Moore’s personal issues, including alcohol and drug problems, appeared to have contributed to his erratic and dangerous behavior. Court reports indicated that he kept a school uniform at his home and took photographs of the victim without her consent, further illustrating his abnormal sexual interests. On the day of the assault, Moore demanded sex, but the victim refused, describing her state during the ordeal as “rigid with fear.”

The second incident occurred in February 2011, when Moore, described as a “glorified pimp,” drove the victim to two different jobs in Droylsden and Dukinfield. He left her without money to return home, which led to a confrontation upon her arrival. An argument over their child escalated into violence, with Moore violently assaulting her, attempting to strangle her, and ultimately using a knife to cut her. These acts of violence further underscore the dangerous and abusive nature of Moore’s conduct, leaving a trail of trauma and fear in the community of Oldham.
