ANDREW MATHEWS FROM CARLISLE SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Carlisle, 66-year-old Andrew Mathews has been formally sentenced after being found in possession of a significant collection of illegal images.The police investigation, which culminated in a search of his residence in November 2013, uncovered a disturbing array of material, including 94 images classified as child pornography.
Among these were particularly serious category A images, which are considered the most severe due to their explicit and exploitative nature.
In addition to the 94 images, authorities also discovered thousands of other prohibited images stored on his devices, highlighting the extent of his possession of illegal material.
Mathews, who had previously admitted to the charges, faced the court to receive his sentence.
The case was presided over by Judge Peter Hughes, who acknowledged the complex balance that must be struck in such cases—namely, the need to punish offenders appropriately while also considering measures to prevent future crimes.
As part of his sentencing, Andrew Mathews was handed a three-year community order.
This order requires him to participate in a specialized treatment program aimed at addressing the underlying issues related to his offending behavior.
Furthermore, he is mandated to register as a sex offender indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from potential harm.
