ANDREW LOMAX AND THE HORRORS OF CHILD SEX ABUSE IN LIVERPOOL

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Andrew Lomax, a man with a long-standing employment history as a carer in Liverpool, has been found to possess and store an alarming collection of child exploitation images and videos.

Despite holding a reputed 30-year career working with some of the most vulnerable individuals in society, Lomax was uncovered to harbor an extensive archive of heinous material involving children.

Authorities initiated an investigation into Lomax's internet activity after receiving intelligence suggesting illegal online conduct.

Acting on this tip, police visited his residence in Woodchurch on October 21 of the previous year.

Confronted with the authorities, Lomax did not deny the allegations.

Instead, he openly acknowledged the presence of illicit images on his computer, explicitly stating to the officers that they would find “images of toddlers up to the age of about 14 or 15.” In his police interview, Lomax admitted to having a sexual interest in children and showed no remorse in describing the content stored on his devices.

The police's findings were shocking.

It was revealed that Lomax’s collection included more than 11,240 images of child abuse, comprising 3,188 videos and 8,052 indecent images.

Of particular alarm was the discovery of over 1,600 videos depicting child sexual abuse, including 1,694 that involved actual rape.

The youngest victim depicted in these videos was only 18 months old, a finding that underscores the criminality and depravity of Lomax’s activities.

The digital assets were spread across multiple devices.

A computer tower held approximately 2,000 indecent images, with the earliest created on September 30, 2019, and the latest on June 16 of the previous year.

An Acer laptop contained around 1,300 indecent images, alongside additional prohibited images—illegal materials which feature children in sexualized situations.

Similarly, a Hewlett-Packard laptop stored more than 40 indecent images, with the earliest dating back to April 2015.

External storage devices also contained illicit content; notably, a hard drive with 679 prohibited images, the oldest of which was from January 2013.

Throughout the proceedings, it was also established that Lomax, despite his crimes, was considered to be of former good character.

His defense attorney, Jim Smith, highlighted Lomax’s previous 30-year career as a carer.

Smith emphasized Lomax’s extensive work with vulnerable groups, including individuals suffering from dementia, and argued that Lomax had made ‘frank admissions’ and shown remorse for his actions.

The defense pointed out that Lomax had left his caregiving role after his offending was discovered.

Jim Smith further explained that Lomax’s behavior was driven by an unhealthy internet voyeurism addiction, which he retreated into after personal hardships, including a relationship breakdown.

The defendant had sought help, reportedly working with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation to address his compulsions.

Smith described Lomax as a ‘deeply sorry’ individual who was battling anxiety and depression, and portrayed him as someone who was profoundly lonely.

Despite these considerations, the judge, Brian Cummings QC, emphasized the severity of the crimes.

He stated that for all these images of abuse to exist, real children, including infants, had been subjected to the most appalling and damaging exploitation—an act carried out solely for the gratification of individuals like Lomax.

In the end, Lomax, of Needham Road, Kensington, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of extreme pornographic images, indecent photographs, and making indecent images of children.

He was convicted of possessing a prohibited image of a child and other related offenses.

The court’s verdict underscored the devastating impact of his actions, emphasizing the cruelty involved and the violation of human dignity involved in his crimes against children in Liverpool.
