ANDREW GREIG FROM CRIEFF JAILED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS DISCOVERED IN SCOTLAND

In November 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving Andrew Greig, a resident of Crieff, Perthshire, who was found to be in possession of an extensive collection of child abuse material. The police investigation revealed that Greig’s home at Ballagan Flats, Gallowhill, Crieff, was the site of a shocking discovery, leading to his subsequent imprisonment.

Authorities acted on a credible tip-off, which prompted a police raid on Greig’s residence. During the search, officers uncovered an alarming hoard of nearly 2,000 videos related to child abuse. These videos, which had a combined duration exceeding 134 hours, were described by the investigators as some of the most graphic and disturbing material they had ever encountered in their careers.

The content included both videos and still images depicting the sexual abuse of infants and young children. The material was not only deeply obscene but also highly disturbing in nature. Some videos showed adult males engaging in sexual acts with girls whose ages ranged from as young as five to fourteen years old. The sheer volume and explicitness of the material underscored the severity of the offense.

Andrew Greig, aged 41, was charged with multiple offenses related to the possession and downloading of this illicit material. He admitted to downloading the child abuse content at his home between November 18, 2018, and April 7, 2019. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to possessing the videos and images on April 8, 2019. As a result of his convictions, Greig’s name was added to the Sex Offenders’ Register, marking a significant step in his legal repercussions.

During the court proceedings at Perth Sheriff Court, Sheriff Gillian Wade warned Greig that prison was the most probable outcome for his actions. The sentencing was deferred to allow for a community justice social work report and an assessment from the Tay Project, an initiative dedicated to rehabilitating sex offenders. The court was informed that the degree of moral depravity involved in Greig’s case was of considerable concern, far exceeding what the quantity of material might initially suggest.

Depute fiscal Chris Mackintosh emphasized the gravity of the case, stating, “The degree of moral turpitude is of far greater significance than the quantity might first suggest.”

In a police interview, Greig expressed feelings of fear and relief upon the police’s arrival. He admitted that indecent images would be found on his computer and revealed that some of his online search terms indicated a specific predilection for pre-teen females, further highlighting the disturbing nature of his offenses.
