PERTH MAN SENTENCED FOR HISTORIC SEXUAL ASSAULT OF YOUNG GIRL
A man from Perth, identified as Andrew Gregory, has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in a Fife woodland area.
Gregory, who was 14 years old at the time of the offense in 2005, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court where he admitted to carrying out the attack.
The sheriff, Charles MacNair, explained that if this offense occurred today it would be classified as attempted rape, but it was dealt with under the laws applicable at that time.
Gregory was sentenced to a community payback order, including three years of supervision and a financial penalty of £1,500 in compensation.
Gregory’s background includes meeting his victim on an online gaming site and arranging to visit her at her home before going for a walk in a secluded woodland called the Den in Kennoway.
During this walk, Gregory indecently assaulted the girl, who has learning difficulties.
It was noted that the victim did not report the incident immediately; the details emerged during a chat with a social worker in March 2015.
The court was told that Gregory has Asperger’s syndrome and was socially isolated as a child.
