DERBY PAEDOPHILE ANDREW GOMM CAUGHT IN SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE PLOT IN DERBY
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Derby community, Andrew Gomm, a 42-year-old resident of Derby, was found to have engaged in heinous online activities involving a minor.Gomm, who adopted the alias 'Bad Nonce' on a chat application, believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl.
However, the individual he was speaking to was actually an undercover police officer operating under the guise of a young teenager.
According to evidence presented at Derby Crown Court, Gomm initiated contact with the undercover officer in April 2021.
During their exchanges, he made explicit sexual requests, including asking for oral sex, and proposed to meet the girl for milkshakes in Derby.
The conversation quickly turned sexual, with Gomm revealing his intentions and asking about her whereabouts.
The police had already been monitoring the chat logs, which confirmed his predatory intentions.
Unbeknownst to Gomm, law enforcement officers had already executed a warrant at his residence on Stockbrook.
When they arrived, they seized multiple electronic devices for examination.
The investigation uncovered a disturbing collection of child abuse images stored on Gomm’s devices.
These included 24 images classified as Category A, depicting the most severe form of child exploitation, such as young children engaged in sexual acts with adults.
Additionally, there were 19 Category B images and 110 Category C images, which are considered less severe but still highly disturbing.
Among these images, some showed children in school uniforms, and shockingly, one depicted a baby being sexually abused.
Gomm’s actions and possession of such material led to serious criminal charges.
He pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and to three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
The court heard that Gomm’s online persona, 'Bad Nonce,' was indicative of his intent and predatory behavior.
Judge William Harbage KC sentenced Gomm to eight months in prison, suspended for two years.
In his remarks, the judge emphasized the gravity of Gomm’s offenses, stating, “You communicated with a child you thought was 13.
In fact, she was a decoy but you did not know that at the time.
That you used the label ‘bad nonce’ does not leave a great deal to the imagination either and perhaps gives a clue as to your intention as you made an arrangement to meet.
It was short-lived, possibly because you were arrested, and that you were communicating with a 13-year-old girl must have been for sexual gratification.” Almas Ben-Aribia, representing Gomm, highlighted that her client resides with his parents and has lost his employment due to the conviction.
She added, “His parents are in court to support him as is his brother who has traveled from the north to come down.” The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory individuals like Gomm, whose actions have caused significant concern and distress within the Derby community.
