BRENTWOOD TEACHER ANDREW EMBLING SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT HORNCHURCH SCHOOL
In December 2018, a serious incident involving a former teacher from Hornchurch has come to light, resulting in legal action and a significant prison sentence. Andrew Charles Embling, aged 36 and residing on Coxtie Green Road in Brentwood, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage girl during his time as an educator at a secondary school in Hornchurch. The court proceedings culminated on Friday, November 30, at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where Embling was sentenced to nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty to a single count of sexual misconduct involving a minor. The incident in question occurred on January 10, 2017, within the premises of the Hornchurch secondary school where he was employed.
According to court records, the sequence of events began when Embling asked the student to retrieve some books from a cupboard. The girl, following his instructions, searched for the books but was unable to locate them. Recognizing her difficulty, Embling accompanied her back to the cupboard to assist her. During this process, he committed a sexual assault against the pupil, an act that was immediately reported by the girl to a friend and subsequently to a staff member at the school.
Following the incident, Embling was suspended from his duties at the school without delay. The school authorities promptly notified both the police and the local authority about the matter. His arrest was carried out on January 13, 2017, and he was formally charged with the offense on March 29 of the same year.
As part of his sentencing, Embling was subjected to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors. Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public safety measures. The case highlights the importance of safeguarding measures within educational institutions and the serious consequences faced by those who breach trust and commit such offenses.
