ANDREW CORNS FROM BLOXWICH SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE IN WALSALL

A 22-year-old man from Bloxwich has been handed a prison sentence of 32 months following his conviction for attempting to commit rape against a schoolgirl nearly four years ago. Andrew Corns, who resides on Croxdene Avenue in Bloxwich, appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court where he admitted to charges of attempted rape and sexual assault. The court proceedings revealed the gravity of his actions, which took place in Walsall in 2006.

In addition to his custodial sentence, the court mandated that Corns register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Furthermore, he was permanently prohibited from engaging in any employment involving children, reflecting the serious concern for public safety and the protection of minors. Judge Nicholas Webb underscored the importance of the judiciary's role in safeguarding vulnerable individuals, stating, "It has always been the duty of the courts to protect children." He also acknowledged the borderline nature of the offense, describing it as being on the cusp between attempted rape and sexual assault.

The case came to light through an investigation initiated after another young girl came forward with allegations. Initially, this new information was not pursued, but subsequent inquiries led police to uncover the earlier attempted rape incident. The prosecutor, John Attwood, explained that the crime was uncovered when the second girl’s allegation prompted further investigation, ultimately revealing the earlier attempted assault that had occurred in Walsall in 2006. The case highlights the importance of vigilance and thorough investigation in cases involving sexual offenses against minors, and the court's decision reflects the seriousness with which such crimes are treated.
