SHEFFIELD WOMAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AND ROBBERY OF 94-YEAR-OLD
A woman from Sheffield who violently assaulted a 94-year-old at their home before stealing from them has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.Amanda Hallows targeted the elderly person in the Burngreave district where they lived alone.
The court was told that after forced entry, Hallows struck the resident with a wooden chair, causing them to lose consciousness.
The incident occurred on May 24 last year, at about 11 a.m., when the victim heard a loud knock and opening the door, Hallows asked for water.
After receiving a bottle of water, Hallows demanded a glass and then became aggressive, pushing the door open.
She shoved the victim back, grabbing their shoulder and eye, which made them fall.
She then hit the victim over the head with a wooden chair, threatening to harm them if they moved, leading to their unconsciousness.
When they awoke, their home had been ransacked, and they sought assistance.
The attack resulted in a forehead laceration that required hospital treatment.
During the theft, Hallows took items including the victim’s reading glasses, wallet, bank cards, and coins.
She was identified and charged with robbery, acknowledged the offence, and was sentenced on June 15 at Sheffield Crown Court.
The victim, who has now passed away, demonstrated notable courage during the process.
