All the offences relate to one female when she was between the ages of five and 14 in Hove Matless was given four years for indecent assault, two years for gross indecency and 10 years for the rape offence. These will run concurrently so he will serve a sentence of 10 years. In March 2014, he was also jailed for five-and-a-half years after he was found guilty of 21 offences, some of indecent assault and some of gross indecency with a child. Officers searched the business address and home of Alyn Matless, 71, who was jailed in March for historic sex offences against four young girls. Documents and communication equipment was removed from a business address in Goldstone Villas, believed to be M&B Domestic Appliances. It is understood that items were also seized from his home in Old Shoreham Road, ,Portslade, in the searches which took place on August 1. No arrests were made and the police yesterday refused to release any further information while investigations continued. Matless was put on trial last year but a jury failed to reach a verdict and he was freed. He was eventually jailed on March 4 this year after being found guilty at a three-day re-trial. His victims varied in age between 3 and 12 years old and the crimes were carried out on separate periods between 1962 and 1989 in Hove and East Sussex. The 71-year-old from Old Shoreham Road in Portslade was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Monday to a total of five and a half years imprisonment. Now retired Detective Constable Martyn Milligan, who investigated the case, said; “This was a very distressing series of offences, and the victims suffered greatly over many years. “Their willingness to come forward and support the prosecution, in which they each had to give evidence twice as there was a re-trial, contributed in large part to bringing Matless to justice. “This is another case that shows that offenders of this type can be successfully prosecuted, even after many years. “We encourage anyone who suffers physical or sexual abuse to come forward, no matter how long after the events. “You will be able to speak in confidence to experienced detectives who can also arrange access to a range of counselling and other supportive facilities.”
