June 2012 Paedophile who left victim “suicidal” is jailed A paedophile who abused a nine-year-old girl leaving her “suicidal” has been jailed. Allan Wright, from County Mayo, Ireland, touched the girl’s thighs and genital area “two or three times a week” for around three years during the ordeal which took place in the early eighties. The victim, now 41, said in a statement that she felt “suicidal” and needed counselling after being subjected to the acts. She also admitted to self-harming and said: “He took away my innocence and what I should have had as a child, and replaced it with his sick perversion. “My adolescence felt confused and dirty. I never enjoyed sex because it made me feel sick and I am ashamed of my body. “I found it hard to look forward to anything. I didn’t want children because I never felt my life was stable enough thinking about what he did.” Skinny Wright sat in the dock at Liverpool Crown Court in a navy suit and showed no emotion as Judge Nigel Gilmour sentenced him to sixteen months in prison. Judge Gilmour said: “If anyone had any doubt at all about what damage these actions can do, they should read this [victim impact] statement. I found the contents heart-breaking. “What you have done had serious impacts indeed. [The victim] felt hopeless, more frightened than she has ever felt before. “This was a terrible breach of trust by you. Because of the breach of trust and the frequency of the offending, a custodial sentence is inevitable.”
