Allan Hunter was living in a sheltered housing complex next to a children’s playpark in Mossend when police swooped on him again. Now a sheriff must decide whether to jail him or let him continue to attend a groupwork project for sex offenders in the community. Hunter (60) returned to Hamilton Sheriff Court last week and admitted sharing dozens of indecent images with fellow paedophiles between April and June last year. He also admitted “expressing a desire to have sexual contact with children” during online conversations. At the time of the police raid last June, Hunter was on bail awaiting a case at the same court after being caught with indecent images of children in January last year. He was sentenced in November on that charge and was given a three-year supervision order and banned from unsupervised contact with children. Callum Forsyth, prosecuting, said 71 images featuring boys and girls aged between two and 12 were found on his phone after the police operation last June. Hunter was living alone in a one-bedroom flat at Unitas Court sheltered housing complex in Mossend at the time. The fiscal revealed: “His flat looked directly on to a children’s playpark 30 feet away. “The images were on a phone found on a bed. Pictures had been sent to him by other users of the Kik Messenger service. Hunter had also shared images with other users and in online discussions had expressed an interest in having sexual contact with children. “Hunter said ‘no comment’ to all questions put to him by police officers. He appeared in court on petition on June 12 and was remanded in custody for a week before being granted bail.” Sheriff David Bicket told Hunter, who has since moved to another part of Mossend: “I require background reports and a risk assessment before I decide how to sentence you.” He remains on bail and must return to court on June 4.
