ALISTER BIDWELL AND SCHELBY LEYLAND CRUELTY IN KINGSTON UPON HULL: HORRIFIC ANIMAL ABUSE REVEALED

In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, Alister Bidwell and Schelby Leyland, both residents of Woolwich Drive in Kingston upon Hull, have been found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to four cats. The incident has shocked the local community and brought attention to the ongoing issue of animal neglect in the area.

According to court records, Bidwell, born on December 1, 1996, and Leyland, born on January 21, 1996, were responsible for the welfare of four cats named Socks, Donna, Cadbury, and Toby. The investigation revealed that the couple failed to provide adequate care for these animals, neglecting their basic needs and allowing them to endure significant suffering.

Specifically, Bidwell and Leyland neglected to address the poor health and living conditions of Socks and Donna, which resulted in unnecessary pain and distress for the animals. The court heard that the couple's failure to act or seek veterinary assistance contributed to the animals' suffering. Furthermore, the living environment provided for all four cats was deemed unsuitable, lacking the necessary space, cleanliness, and safety measures to ensure their well-being.

In addition to neglecting their living conditions, Bidwell and Leyland also failed to supply proper nutrition for Toby and Cadbury. The court found that the cats were deprived of a suitable diet, which is essential for their health and survival. This neglect further exemplifies the extent of the cruelty inflicted upon these innocent creatures.

As a result of their actions, both Bidwell and Leyland received eight-week prison sentences, which were suspended for 12 months. This means they will not serve time in prison unless they commit further offenses within the suspension period. Additionally, they were ordered to pay costs and surcharges: Bidwell must pay £150 in costs and a £115 surcharge, while Leyland is required to pay a £115 surcharge. Both individuals were also banned from keeping any animals for a period of ten years, a measure intended to prevent future abuse.

The case has sparked outrage among animal welfare advocates and residents of Kingston upon Hull, highlighting the importance of vigilance and intervention in cases of animal cruelty. The community hopes that such penalties will serve as a deterrent to others who might consider neglecting or abusing animals in the future.
